Community Process

Introduction

Community participation is the backbone of the health system. The Community Process Programme strengthens the link between people and health facilities by involving frontline workers and village-level committees. At CHC Padmapur, we work closely with ASHA workers and Gaon Kalyan Samitis (GKS) to ensure last-mile delivery of health services and community ownership of health programmes.

ASHA Programme

The Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) is a trained female community health volunteer who acts as a bridge between the community and health system.
At CHC Padmapur,114 no’s of ASHA is assigned to each revenue village to support maternal, child health, and disease control programmes.

Roles of ASHA:

  • Mobilize women for ANC check-ups & institutional delivery
  • Ensure children receive full immunization
  • Create awareness about family planning, nutrition, sanitation & hygiene
  • Distribute ORS, IFA tablets, contraceptives at community level
  • Support in disease surveillance (malaria, TB, leprosy, etc.)
  • Accompany patients to health facilities for emergency care
  • Conduct Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) & Home-Based Young Child Care (HBYC) visits

Incentives:
ASHA receives performance-based incentives under programmes like JSY, RI, NLEP, NTEP, NVBDCP etc.

Gaon Kalyan Samiti (GKS)

Gaon Kalyan Samiti (Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Committee) is a community-level committee formed at each revenue village/ward. It plays a vital role in local planning, monitoring, and accountability of health services.At CHC Padmapur,114 no’s of GKS is formed at each revenue village for above purposes.

Composition:

Community representatives (SHG leaders, PRI members, teachers, etc.)

Ward Member (Chairperson)

Functions of GKS:

  • Organize Village Health & Nutrition Day (VHND)
  • Identify and address local health issues
  • Promote sanitation, safe drinking water, and hygiene
  • Support immunization drives & health awareness campaigns
  • Maintain village-level health fund and utilize it for local health needs
  • Act as a platform for community monitoring of health services

Funds:
Each GKS receives Rs 10000/- annual untied funds to carry out village health activities.
